Bungay Castle

Last week I came to England at Heathrow airport for a trip. I was resident in a hotel. after some days I decided to go on a trip I selected a place to explore it that I needed a cab to deliver me on this place. I booked a company cab online. the booking process was easy they accept my booking. the driver arrived at my location the car was very clean and the driver was also friendly. I asked about Bungay Castle he knew about it. so we left for our destination. he delivered me very comfortably. when I arrived at that place this place was very ancient I felt very good. first of all, I took pictures of different sides. and the guide explained the history of Bungay Castle.
Originally, the location housed a Norman castle that Roger Bigod had erected around 1100 to benefit from the river's natural protection. Hugh, Roger's son, was a significant figure during the Anarchy (1138–1154), a time of civil war, and his loyalty was questioned in the early years of Henry II's rule. Henry seized Bungay, but in 1164 he gave it back to Bigod, who in 1165 erected a sizable square Norman keep there. Although the cost of constructing the keep is unknown, archaeologist Hugh Braun, who oversaw the castle's 1930s excavations, estimated that it would have cost about £1,400 (or £3,747,363 in today's money). In the rebellion of 1173–1174, Bigod was on the losing side, and royal forces besieged, mined, and ultimately slighted Bungay.
It was one of at least 21 castles destroyed on the orders of Henry II, claims historian Sidney Painter. The site was later returned to the Bigod family once more and further developed in 1294 by Roger Bigod, 5th Earl of Norfolk, who most likely constructed the substantial gate towers there. He had a falling out with Edward I, and when he passed away, the castle returned to the Crown and went into ruin. Except for a brief period in the late 18th century, the Dukes of Norfolk retained ownership of the property until the 20th century after reacquiring it in 1483.
The property was sold to Robert Mickleborough in 1766, who used the stone quarried from the keep and curtain walls to construct roads. Daniel Bonhôte, a local attorney, later bought it in the early 1790s, but in around 1800 he sold it back to the Dukes of Norfolk. For several centuries, little to no repairs were made, except for the removal of houses that had been constructed on the property in 1841. The curtain walls of the castle, the gatehouse's twin towers, and a portion of the keep are still standing. Hugh Braun oversaw the restoration work that started in 1934 after amateur archaeologist Leonard Cane had conducted excavations.
The 17th Duke of Norfolk donated the castle to the town of Bungay in 1987, and the Bungay Castle Trust now owns it. It was one of the first places to be protected by the Ancient Monuments Consolidation and Amendment Act of 1913 when it was scheduled in 1915. After that, in 1949, it was listed as a Grade I monument. Elizabeth Bonhôte's Gothic romance Bungay Castle, which was published in 1796, a few years after her husband Daniel had bought the property, was based on Bungay Castle.
